WHAT IS MUSIC THERAPY?

According to the AMTA (American Music Therapy association) –
Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses. Music therapy interventions can be designed to promote:
Promote wellness; Manage stress; Alleviate pain; Express feelings; Enhance memory; Improve communication; Promote physical rehabilitation.
Research in music therapy supports its effectiveness in a wide variety of healthcare and educational settings.

Ofri Eliaz has MA in music therapy from New York University, N.Y.C
She is a member of I.C.E.T: The Israeli Association of Creative & Expressive Therapies.

In N.Y.C Eliaz studied with a few mentors such as: Diane Austin, Lisa Sokolov and Sylvia Nakash who introduced her to the use of the voice in therapy and influenced her deeply. The' Voice and Movement Therapy' of Paul Newham had its influence on her as well.

She currently works with children and adults in Jerusalem, and specializes in the use of the human voice in music therapy besides the use of instruments.
